Spring weather may be far from here, but we know it’s on your mind, so let us help you prep your step. With new spring items arriving at our Whyte Ave store every week, we’re eager to show you some of our favourites. This week, we introduce to you a new brand at Derks, Spalwart, a Swedish shoe-making company that manufactures its product with vintage machinery. Voted by GQ as the “perfect summer sneaker,” you can’t go wrong with a pair of these puppies.

Their concept originated when Christoffer Brattin, the founder of the company, came across an abandoned shoe factory in Slovakia that had not seen the light of day since the mid 50’s. He saw it as his obligation to dust off the equipment and share the forgotten art of shoe-making with lovers of quality and authenticity. Spalwart was born and the Swedish label  set up shop in the classic shoe factory, where vintage molds and techniques are utilized to manufacture footwear just like in the good ol’ days.

What really sets the shoe apart is its aggressive vulcanized rubber sole, which makes it practical for slippery trails and concrete paths. If you’d enjoy a practical shoe that will leave you feeling characteristically unique, we’d definitely recommend a pair of these.
